West River Valley Thrives (Thrives)

Title: Programs Coordinator (PC)
In conjunction with other staff, this position is responsible for coordinating the implementation
of programs, content development and community engagement (youth and adults) to meet the
outcomes of the substance use prevention and mental health awareness strategies of West River
Valley Thrives (Thrives). The Programs Coordinator will communicate through multiple
channels to educate, coordinate, and build momentum around Thrives’ activities and initiatives.
Responsibilities
● As part of the Thrives’ team, growing a healthy community in collaboration with
students, families and community members.
● As part of the Thrives’ team, assist the Director in developing project proposals,
seeking, and securing funding sources to sustain the work of the coalition.
● As a member of the Thrives’ team, help implement all work plans as developed by
the coalition, including supporting Director and Parent/Caring Adult Engagement
Coordinator with program activities, as able.
● As a member of the Thrives’ team, assist the Director in ensuring grant compliance
and reporting requirements.
● Collaborate and coordinate with local health educators on HECAT/SHI tasks and
requirements.
● Work with other Thrives staff to build strong relationships with community partners
including local businesses, school staff, municipal leaders, health care organizations,
social service agencies, and other community groups around Thrives’ activities.
● Assisting in school-related activities and youth-led groups as needed.
● Assisting with the coordination of logistics for regular Coalition meetings and other
meetings and events as needed.
● Representing Thrives at community meetings, statewide meetings, events, and other
public forums, as needed.
● Highlighting Thrives’ work through providing content that includes a bi-monthly
E-blast, quarterly newsletter, press releases, local newsletters, social media platforms
and regular blog posts on the website.
● Attending as needed the Windham County Prevention Partnership Communication
Committee as part of a regional prevention partnership.
● Attend and assist with organizational events and campaign activities as needed,
providing on-site coordination, support, and representation.

● Assisting with stakeholder education by sharing materials and information at coalition
meetings, one-on-one outreach, select board meetings, school board meetings and
other access points.
● Seeking out opportunities for broader community education at local farmers markets,
special events, clubs, and school activities.
● Sharing information and best practices with local retailers to ensure statewide
compliance and reduce the risks that the promotion and sales of alcohol and tobacco
products pose to minors.
● Assist with coordinating logistics and implementation for activities such as Sticker
Shock, Lawn Sign Campaign, and other annual programming and campaigns.
● As part of the Thrives’ team, maintaining activity trackers, making note of
challenges/barriers and writing success stories.
● Being a vital, enthusiastic, and supportive member of the Thrives team and our
community partnerships.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
• Degree and/or equivalent experience in health education, community outreach or
communication
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and public speaking skills
• Knowledge and skills in social media marketing; the ability to write for diverse audiences
• Ability to work cooperatively with youth, parents, community members, and key leaders
• Capable of convening groups and organizing collective efforts around a common goal
• Organized, detail oriented, and able to follow through on multiple projects
• Knowledge of effective alcohol and drug prevention principles and strategies preferable
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
• Ability to take direction and openly listen to recommendations
• Creativity, organization, initiative, and flexibility
• Flexibility to work some nights and weekends required
Compensation:$24.00/hr
Location: Hybrid (in person and remote)
Schedule: 25-29 hours/week
