Bringing Back Community Hope & Action
You may remember the regular community events in Townshend that were the hallmark of Community Hope and Action (CHA). These gatherings were a festive collection of dinners, dancing, live music, chili cookoffs, and pancake breakfasts, to name a few. As a grassroots, volunteer-led organization, Community Hope and Action organized events to bring the residents of Townshend and its surrounding towns together for fun, community, and entertainment.
The History of CHA
At its peak in 2018-2019, CHA had over 20 community volunteers from 15 organizations working together to foster its mission of, “Instilling hope by creating opportunities to support and connect everyone within our community.” This committed group hosted free monthly concerts with supper at the Townshend Town Hall. The events featured local performers and sometimes included dancing, a cook-off, or a talent show. These substance free events helped to connect community members in an inclusive way by offering the opportunity for people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests to enjoy food and activities together.
Re-envisioning CHA Together
West River Valley Thrives is now working to bring Community Hope and Action back to life with new & old volunteers, community partners, ideas, and energy. With the initial goal of holding two events this year, as well as expanding its reach to the entire West River Valley, CHA is ready to hear from you. Your input is needed to help shape how the organization is re-envisioned and to provide ideas for what type of events and activities community members are interested in attending.
